The short version
One measurement tool, and only with your permission
These pages use Google Analytics to count visits, so we can tell which pages are worth writing more of. It is switched off when you arrive. Until you press Accept on the bar at the bottom of the page, no analytics cookie is written and nothing that could recognise you on a later visit is stored.
If you press Decline, or simply ignore the bar, that stays true for as long as you keep browsing. Pressing Decline records only the fact that you declined, so we can stop asking.
In detail
What is stored, and by whom
The cookie that remembers your answer
One cookie, named xc_consent, holding one word: granted or denied. It is set for the whole xchain.io family so that answering once covers the documentation, the hub and the other sites listed below, and it lasts six months, after which the bar appears again. This is the only thing stored if you decline, and it is written by us, not by Google.
Google Analytics, if you accept
Accepting turns on Google Analytics 4 (property G-ZGWQ4YKRMH, operated by Dankest, LLC). It writes a cookie holding a random number that stands in for "this browser". It has no name, address or account attached to it, because this website has no accounts. That cookie also lasts six months, deliberately matched to your answer rather than left at Google's two-year default, so the measurement cannot outlive the permission it was collected under.
What Google receives, for each page you look at: the page address, the page you arrived from, roughly where in the world you are (worked out from your IP address, which Google does not pass on to us), and your device, browser and screen size. We also record one event of our own, when you follow a link off the site, noting which page you left from and where you were heading. That is the whole question this measurement exists to answer.
Cloudflare
Cloudflare sits in front of these sites and serves them. Your request reaches Cloudflare before it reaches us, so Cloudflare sees your IP address, and it runs its own visitor measurement on these pages. That measurement sets no cookie and runs whether or not you accept the bar above, because it is part of how the sites are served rather than something bolted on top. Cloudflare handles that data under its own terms.
Server logs
Our web servers keep an ordinary access log: the time, what was requested, the response code, the page that linked you and your browser's user-agent string. No account is attached to any of it, because there are no accounts.
Limits
What this site will not do
Google Analytics can be used for advertising as well as measurement. On this site the advertising categories are refused permanently, in the page itself, before Google's code loads: nothing on this site can switch them on, and the Accept button does not switch them on either. It grants exactly one thing, analytics storage. That is enforced by a test that fails the build if it ever stops being true.
So: no advertising cookies, no remarketing or ad-personalisation signals, no profile built for advertisers, and no sale of anything. We do not follow you to other people's websites; Google Analytics is limited to the sites listed below.
Everything else these pages need, they serve themselves. The typeface and the icons are hosted here rather than fetched from a font or CDN service, so Google Analytics is the only third party any page of ours asks your browser to contact.
Practicalities
Changing your mind, and which sites this covers
To be asked again, delete the xc_consent cookie for xchain.io in your browser's site settings. The bar comes back on the next page you load and you can answer differently. Pressing Decline then deletes the Google Analytics cookie as well, rather than leaving an identifier in place until it expires on its own, so withdrawing takes effect at once.
Blocking cookies for this site, or using a content blocker, has the same effect, and nothing here tries to work around either.
This notice covers xchain.io, docs.xchain.io, hub.xchain.io, sync.xchain.io, encoder.xchain.io and mcp.xchain.io.
It does not cover the XChain Wallet, at wallet.xchain.io and in the browser, desktop and phone apps, which carries no analytics at all and is described by its own policy. It also does not cover the block explorer at explorer.xchain.io, which carries no analytics either.
